Fmr NSA and Google Developers Help Internet Go Private

Will you soon be able to surf the internet free from search engines searching through your private information? A new application, Disconnect Search, allows you to do just that. The new system was created by engineers from Google, working with developers who once worked for the National Security Agency.

Created by the company Disconnect, the new tool will allow viewers to perform Web searches without being tracked by the company providing the service.

Disconnect Search routes all searches through the application, making searches appear like they originated from the company’s Web site. Keywords from your searches are blocked from being stored on home computers, and all search queries are encrypted.

Using this system, Web surfers will be able to search for anything on the Web with little to no chance of being tracked or traced by authorities. The service could put the days of search query tracking to an end forever.

Casey Oppenheim, co-founder of Disconnect, said, “People don’t want or expect search engines, Internet service providers, the government, and websites they visit to record and connect their searches with their real name. Unfortunately, this type of unwanted tracking of our search history and other personal information is all too prevalent.”

Users could search for material about how to build bombs, or look for material that is damaging to children.

Others may find the service is able to disguise research on topics that could make government and corporate officials uneasy. Journalists may find Disconnect Search to be vital when researching leaked documents.

The NSA is spying on billions of phone calls, text messages and emails every day, in nations around the world. Disconnect Search is the next step by privacy advocates.

The system runs on a -pay-what-you-want policy. Company officials say they will start to turn a profit when the number of users double.

Making YouTube More Family Friendly is a great question - Rather torn about this the idea does sound nice BUT evil is out there & to have a site that is known to be Children 10 & Under would be a target for those who would do our children harm - would be much better if we could have a better rating system similar to movies to be able to sort our searches by & youtube can use as a filter when making it’s suggested videos to watch

It would also be much better if those videos which are in fact porn could be just moved off of the current youtube & moved over to a youtube site for those type of people to post their stuff while the rest of us who do not want to see porn don’t have it showing up as a related video because of the tags the porn people have added into their description fields
